Running for Make-A-Wish Minnesota

“On my bucket list is to run the 109 Mile George Mickelson Trail which runs the length of Black Hills, from Deadwood to Edgemont, SD,” explained Jim Schneider. The retired Heron Lake-Okabena teacher continues to run, and has completed many marathons over the past several years.

This George Mickelson Trail is built on an old rail roadbed. “This run will be a milestone mark for my 70th birthday,” he added. “I would like to raise for Make-A-Wish Minnesota.”

The cost of granting one wish for a child on average is $10,000 so that is Schneider’s fundraising goal. A quote from the Make-A-Wish website states: “When a wish is granted, a child replaces fear with confidence, anxiety with excitement and sadness with optimism.”

Schneider’s plan is to run the 109 mile trail over several days starting Tuesday, September 3 through Monday, September 9, 2019.

“I grew up in South Dakota, started my 41-and-a-half year teaching career in Edgemont and taught school in the Heron Lake-Okabena, MN district for 39 years,” Schneider added. “So, it is fitting that I end the run at the Edgemont Trail Head and finish the run at the Edgemont school.”

Schneider would appreciate any assistance to help make this ‘Wish’ become a reality.
