Over the last year, the residents of Ellsworth have dealt with events that haven’t exactly been positive, but they say bad things happen in threes, so this should be the last.
On the evening of Monday, March 4, Ellsworth lost it’s water. Talking to Ray Palmer, Water and Waste Water Supervisor for the City of Ellsworth, he explained the series of events that occurred. “The city lost it’s water on Monday night. On Tuesday morning, crews began to search for the reason. We drove around for quite a while, unable to find anything. A local plumber spotted water in a ditch. We chased the trail for a few blocks before we found the source. The leg (the main line coming down) on the water tower had frozen, causing excess pressure on the lines, which in turn caused a blow out of a water main. Once the problem was isolated, it took time for repairs, leaving parts of Ellsworth without water. The Volunteer Fire Department went house to house to be sure the residents all had water.”
As it turned out, nine homes were left without running water during the repairs. Other residents were under instructions to boil the water until further notice. By Thursday, the repairs were made and all residents again had water. Things have returned to normal.
Spring is less than one week away. I don’t think it can come soon enough for Ellsworth!
