Ellsworth has been receiving the cold air that January usually brings, along with snow.  We have really been spoiled with the nice winter that we had, after all it is Minnesota !!!

The Ellsworth City Hall and Opera House was a complete loss onTuesday January 15, 2019 due to a fire, the cause is unknown at this time.  The people in Ellsworth and surrounding towns are shocked and saddened.  They are so grateful for the fire departments and extra help provided with mutual aid.

Many of the 1984 Ellsworth Centennial Books were pulled off the book shelves to find some history.  In December 1881 the need was discussed of a City Hall. Construction of the Hall started in August 1884, fire destroyed the first building on January 31, 1904.  By December 1, 1904 the new City Hall and Opera House was completed at the site of the older building, so the present building was 115 years old.  Talk of building a new one is around.  We all will have to wait to hear more details.   ( Dates above were taken from the Ellsworth Centennial Book.)
