Ellsworth 69, HLO-F 35
The Ellsworth Girls basketball team started off their year the right way by jumping out to an 11-0 run against the Heron Lake – Okabena- Fulda Coyotes on Tuesday’s matchup. The Lady Panthers returned four of their five starters for this year. Junior Ashlyn Meester led all scorers on Tuesday with a solid and strong 21 points, 3 steals and 3 assists, followed by Senior Sierra Smith and Junior Kallie Chapa with 14 and 11 points respectively. Kallie Chapa had a huge night on the glass pulling down 14 rebounds, along with Sierra Smith grabbing 11 rebounds.
Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda had one player in the double digit margin with Khloe Gehl scoring 11 points, followed by fellow teammates Chrissy Hermeling and Kaliee Habermann with each 7 points a piece.
Ellsworth gets their first win of the season and conference improving to 1-0 in both. HLO-F goes to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The Ellsworth Lady Panthers will face Hills-Beaver Creek on Friday, November 30th.
H-BC 69, Ellsworth 25
The Hills-Beaver Creek Lady Patriots held the Ellsworth Lady Panthers to just four second half points after a 40-21 first half score. The Patriots surged their way to a conference victory with a 69-25 finish. Senior Sidney Fick finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, giving herself a nice double-double in Friday nights matchup. Along with Fick, Grace Bundenson had 11 points. Madison Spath and Whitney Elbers contributed with 8 points each.
Senior Lizzie Chapa led the team in scoring for Ellsworth with 10 points along with her 6 rebounds. Kallie Chapa followed behind in scoring with 7 points and 6 rebounds for the Lady Panthers. Ellsworth now has a 1-1 overall record and drop to 1-1 in the Red Rock Conference as well. Hills-Beaver Creek improves to 2-0 on the season.
Ellsworth will play another conference matchup in Adrian on Thursday, December 6th.
