Adrian News 10-17-18

Tony and Darla Parsley of Adrian are collecting winter coats and also accepting any warm clothing.  Items may be dropped at their home at 517 Maine Avenue.

Carly Wolf and Kody Henning were united in marriage on Saturday, Oct. 13 at a beautiful ceremony at St. Adrian Catholic Church.  It was a cool, but nice day.  The reception was held at the Round Lake Winery.  What a great place for a wedding and a great time!

The recent unexpected snowfall put another kabosh onto the harvest.  What a Sunday morning surprse!

Oct. 23 is $2 meal day at the Senior Dining Center!  Where else can you get a good meal for only $2?  Please call ahead.

The AHS football team lost a heartbreaker last Thursday to Canby 14-12.  This week starts section playoffs, and the Dragons meet up with Wabasso on Wednesday, Oct. 17th at Wabasso.  Good luck to the Dragons!

The Dragon Cross Country team and the Volleyball team finished regular season this week and both will start section next week.  Good Luck to both teams!  Where did the fall go?

St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellsworth closed it doors last weekend.  A long procession of cars accompanied the holy relics to St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne.  The Luverne members were very welcoming to the members of St. Mary’s and found places for the antiquities that accompanied them.  Although it will continue to be hard to see the church no longer being used to celebrate Mass, the members of St. Mary’s have found a new home.

Kay Cox had quite a few visitors last week.  On Monday, JoAnn Klein from Conrad, IA stopped to say hi on her way to Custer, SD to see her son Kevin.  On Tuesday Pam Dobson and Cindy Vortherms stopped in to visit with Kay.

The residents of Adrian Country Living Cottages were so excited to see resident Carol Henning all decked out for her grandson Kody’s wedding this past Saturday.  Her beautiful dress was complete with a black mink stoll borrowed from Eileen Henning’s collection.  It was a special time for her.

The following is a poem written by Kay Cox about this past Sunday.

With 3 inches of snow more or less

The folks at Wilmont could only guess

Their big fall dinner was hours away!

The tables were set

All knew what to do

They stick together like

 Elmer’s glue.

The food was delicious, the service was great

Plan ahead for next year – don’t be late!

And a silent auction-who could ask for more!

The Vikings won!  What a great score

To the Vikings and Wilmont,  I have to just say

Thanks! You made my day!

Thought for the week:  This is taken from Jerry’s Jotting Oct. 3, 2018.  Voting is your right. So is not voting, but why leave the outcome to others. Knowing the candidates is our responsibility and should be for an informed choice. You can vote for someone or against them but know why. If you are just checking boxes, then I would suggest you stay home.
