Mass of Christian Burial was held for Daryel Buss, age 76, of Luverne, MN on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne, MN, officiated by Fr. Thomas Jennings. Burial with full military honors provided by the Luverne American Legion & VFW, was in St. Catherine Cemetery. Daryel died Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at his home. He was born February 12, 1942, in Adrian, MN to Anthony “Tony” and Grace (Boltjes) Buss. He graduated from Adrian High School and later served his country in the United States Army.
Daryel met Delores “Dee” Honermann, the love of his life, at Snook’s where she worked. He married Dee on February 23, 1963, at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian, MN. The couple lived in Minneapolis, MN for one year before moving to Luverne. Daryel managed IGA and later HyVee in Luverne, MN. He then worked at Les’ Food Land and Tony’s Food Land which later became Jubilee Foods. In 1999, he began working at Pace Manufacturing, in Brandon, SD before retiring.
He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church where he served as an usher, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed card club, watching the Minnesota Twins, NASCAR, attending his grandchildren’s events, watching the weather, traveling with Dee, Hostess Cup Cakes, ice cream, his Lazy Boy recliner and most of all spending time with his family and friends.
Daryel is survived by his five children, Butch (Jo) Buss, Luverne, MN; Troy (Lisa) Buss, Golden Shores, AZ; Tim (Christy) Buss, St. Michael, MN; Tom (Cassandra) Buss, Bellevue, WA; and Traci (Jason) Schmid, Harrisburg, SD; seven grandchildren, Jackie, Melisa, Britt, Tyler, Mady, Tayler & Morgan; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Lily; brother, Dale (Gayle) Buss, Adrian, MN; sister, Lou Ella Engelson, Harris, IA; and a sister-in-law, Sandy Buss, Sioux Falls, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step father, Wiard Schroeder; Dee, his wife of fifty two years, on September 29, 2014; an infant grandchild, baby Schmid; and a brother, Dave Buss.
