Stephen “Steve” Webster Swayze

Sioux Falls, SD

A Mass of Christian Burial was held. Monday, July 2, 2018 at St. Michael Parish, Sioux Falls, SD,  with burial in St. Simon and Jude Catholic Cemetery, Flandreau, SD. Stephen “Steve” Webster Swayze was born on March 8, 1983 in Sherwood, Oregon to MaryJane (Davidson) Swayze and Tim Swayze. After a tragic accident and a series of unfortunate events, Steve passed away on June 28, 2018 in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 35.

Growing up in Oregon, Steve was curious, inquisitive, and caring. He moved to Ellsworth, MN at a young age, where he later graduated in 2001. He was involved in activities such as band, theatre, football, and baseball. During his teen years, Steve developed a strong talent for music — picking up a guitar at age 13 and never putting it down. He taught himself to play, took lessons, learned from (and taught) friends, and furthered his musical prowess by playing other instruments as well: baritone, drums, bass guitar, and piano, to name a few. Steve’s passion for music shined brightly throughout his lifetime as he was able to share his musical talents on stage and in the recording studio with the likes of Idyl Exhibit and Tons of ‘Em. While music was a substantial part of Steve’s life, his creativity, intelligence, and drive blossomed in other ways as well. He was an ‘A’ Honor Roll student in high school, a writer for the Daily Globe in Worthington, MN, and shared an impressive set of cooking skills in kitchens spanning the state of South Dakota.

Steve is survived by his mother, MaryJane Swayze, Sioux Falls, SD; father, Tim Swayze, Sioux Falls, SD; brother, Robert (Courtney) Swayze, Chicago, IL; grandfather, Dick Swayze, Florence, OR; Godparents, Allan and Charlene Venenga, Sioux Falls, SD; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, C. Virgil Davidson; grandmother, Jane Davidson; aunt, Marsha Davidson; grandmother, June Swayze; aunt, Cynthia Swayze; aunt, Sandra Swayze; and cousin, Christina Swayze.
