What a great weekend!
Morgan, Michaela and Greg Kern were guests of honor at their 2016 graduation open house held Sunday, May 29th at the Lismore Legion Club in Lismore, MN. The triplets, children of Kristine and Todd were all smiles as they greeted their many guests. The tables along the north wall of the Legion club were filled with pictures, awards and memorabilia collected the past 18 years. The many family members, friends and school mates dined on delicious food. Mom, Kristine had used turkeys to make a hot delicious sandwich. She will not touch another turkey until November. Lots of salads and soft ice cream delighted everyone. The school colors of blue and gold decorated the room. Congratulations to Greg, Morgan and Michaela. I would like to thank Joyce Broesder for the ride to Lismore.
Memorial Day was sunny, cool and a slight breeze at the services which started at the city cemetery at 9:30. Legion members marched to the half-mast flag, center, to lay a wreath. Rev. Boese from the Lutheran Church gave a great talk about “Taps” which is usually played at every military funeral. The Legion members gave the 21 gun salute and taps was played by Rev. Boese. The members of the Legion then went to the Catholic Cemetery and repeated the service again. There was a large crowd of the same folks at both cemeteries, and all were invited to the Legion Club for a meal. The Legion Post Auxiliary members furnished all the food under the capable hands of Diane Strassberg who is the President of Legion Post #32. The club was packed but the club members brought in extra chairs and all were seated and listened closely to a short program and a prayer before enjoying the delicious food. Boy Scouts and other children helped in the kitchen and in the dining hall. It was a wonderful day as the area honored their Veterans. (An old saying “Pride goes before a fall” was certainly true for Kay Cox at the Adrian City Cemetery on Memorial Day. As she was sitting and enjoying the service, a bird flew over and deposited a “no-no” on her white slacks! Help and smiles were near by!)
