Board Meeting March 19, 2018
Board chair Lenz called the regular meeting of the Adrian Board of Education to order at 6:00 P.M. on March 19, 2018. Members present: Bullerman, Kruger, Lenz, Madison, Sieve and Wolf. Also present was Superintendent Graff, Principals Koehne, and Lofthus, staff members Wange and Frodermann.
The following member was absent: Kunkel.
Motion by Wolf to appoint Kruger as Board Clerk/Treasurer, seconded by Sieve, motion carried.
Motion by Wolf, seconded by Kruger approve and amend the agenda, amending Item A – WAN
Contract & Letter of Agency, under the Superintendent’s Report, motion carried.
Mr. Graff presented the building and grounds report.
• The High School kitchen steamer is in need of replacement with a cost of approximately $15,000 to $18,000 with a rebate for an Energy Star model. Motion by Wolf to purchase a unit not to exceed $18,000 and to comply with the rebate, seconded by Sieve, motion carried
• Advance Health & Safety is doing the mandated lead in water testing.
Motion by Madison, seconded by Wolf to approve the minutes from the February 26, 2018 meeting, motion carried.
Motion by Wolf, seconded by Madison to approve the claims and accounts for the month of February 2018, motion carried.
Superintendent Graff presented the February reports. Motion by Sieve, seconded by Bullerman to approve the account balances for the month of February, motion carried.
Mr. Wange presented his Athletic Director’s report.
• Presented a winter sports wrap up
• Presented spring sports participation numbers. Requesting to hire an additional girls softball coach for Middle School. Motion by Wolf to give Administration permission to hire as needed for the position, seconded by Bullerman, motion carried.
• Presented volunteer coaches for Track. Motion by Madison, seconded by Wolf to approve the track volunteer coaches, motion carried.
• Presented volunteer coaches for Golf, motion by Wolf, seconded by Sieve to approve volunteer coaches for golf, motion carried.
• Discussed the uniform replacement rotation.
o Volleyball will be replacing the Libero Uniform
o Boys Basketball will buy their own away uniforms – out of rotation.
o Wrestling is asking the District to purchase uniforms and the club will purchase warm ups.
Cate Koehne presented her Principal’s Report.
• Presented a request for maternity leave from May 3 to the end of the 2018 school year.
Motion by Wolf, seconded by Madison to approve request, motion carried.
• Updated the board on the math curriculum purchase for the 2018-19 school year
• Updated the board on the chromebook purchase for the 2018-19 school year.
Mr. Lofthus presented his Elementary Principal’s report.
• Reviewed survey information regarding Early Childhood/Preschool survey that was sent out.
And discussed what direction to proceed.
Mr. Graff presented his Superintendent’s report:
• Presented and explained the Wide Area Network Agreement (WAN) and the Letter of Agency. Motion by Wolf, seconded by Sieve to accept the Letter of Agency, motion carried.
Motion by Wolf, seconded by Sieve to approve the WAN Contract with SDN Communications, motion carried.
• Presented a letter of resignation from E. Kiers effective the end of the 2017-18 school year.
Motion by Sieve, seconded by Madison to approve resignation, motion carried.
• Reminded the board of the work session on Wednesday March 22 at 6 PM.
• Presented a one year Retired/Rehired Teacher Agreement with K Nowotny for the 2018-19 school year, with an increase to the 403B contribution. Motion by Wolf, seconded by Madison to approve agreement, motion carried.
Motion by Wolf, seconded by Madison to adjourn the March meeting of the Adrian Board of Education at 6:55 P.M., motion carried.
