A Memorial Visitation for George Leo Bents, age 89, was held Monday, April 2, 2018, at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, MO. A private family burial was held. George passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018 at his home in Deepwater, MO. George was born August 15, 1928 to Rancy Sr. and Bena Bents on the farm in Rushmore, MN.
On February 27, 1950 he was united in marriage to Dolores May from Sibley, IA. He farmed two years and was then drafted into the U.S. Army There he fought in the Korean War. While enlisted he became a golden glove boxer. After he came home, he farmed south of Rushmore, MN until fall of 1979. They then bought a farm in Deepwater, MO where they farmed and had cattle. He also drove the Clinton City Bus for 20 years. When he wasn’t farming, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, being with his family and playing the accordion while his dog Maggie sang.
George is survived by Wayne (Ruth) Bents of Rushmore, MN; Gary (Rachelle) Bents of Deepwater, MO; Julie Vandyke of Deepwater, MO; four grandchildren, Jodi Faber, Candy King, Kyle Bents, Jared Bents; and six great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Dolores Bents; parents, Rancy Sr. and Bena Bents; two brothers, Rancy Jr. and Harry Bents; two sisters, Francis Klein and infant sister; infant grandchild, George Eugene Bents; and son-in-law Steve Vandyke.
