In what started as a very slow and sloppy beginning for the Dragon girls basketball team, they were able to turn things around and finish with a 56-39 win over the Westbrook Walnut Groove Chargers in the January 30th match up in the Dragon’s home gym. With the B squad starting the night with a stellar performance and winning their match up, the Varsity was ready to hit the court and do the same. Once the final buzzer sounded the Dragons had three seniors in double digits. Hannah Bullerman led the team with 15 points followed by Paige Bullerman who put in 10 points and led the team in rebounds, pulling down nine for the night. Lexi Slater added 12 points of her own to the win. Junior, Avery Balster caught the most steals coming in at five. The team totaled 17 steals for the night and improved greatly on their turnovers only committing 16 compared to WWG’s 25. Sophomore, Moriah Bullerman showed great ball control and dished out four assists to her teammates.
The Chargers only had four players who scored the whole night, and three of them were in double digits. Bethany Byers and Alli VandeKeift both put up 11 points each for the Chargers. VandeKeift also was 100% from the free throw line. Byers pulled down eight rebounds while Theresa Merrick dished out four assists.
The Dragons will be in Mt. Lake on February 8th to take on the Wolverines and then will host Heron Lake-Okabena on the 13th.
