Adrian News 01-17-18

Please consider giving blood on Wednesday, January 24, at the High School gym, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  According to the Red Cross there is a shortage of blood.  You can make an appointment with Al or Cindy Cox at their business phone, 483-2218, or Cindy’s cell, 507-360-0537.  Your blood may save someone in desperate need.  Thank you!

The Adrian Senior Center is so grateful for the gifts of paper supplies instead of Christmas gifts.  This was a suggestion from one of the people who come down for lunch.  Why not try to attend one of the great hot meals available everyday.  Start by coming once a month, if not for the meal, come for the company of the other people who attend.  All you have to do is call Marie at 483-2588 the day before and tell her you’re coming.  It would be great to get a larger group of people enjoying the meal site.

There will not be a two buck meal at the Adrian Senior Center in the month of January.

SHARE magazine is the official magazine of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.  What a surprise to open the last issue and see a picture of Cindy Bullerman and Deb Lutmer on page thirty-seven.  These two ladies won second place in the national CDA newsletter contest.  Congratulations to Cindy and Deb for this award!

In the same magazine is a picture of the falls of the Big Sioux River located in Sioux Falls, SD.  The next CDA National Convention will be held in South Dakota in July of 2018.  The convention headquarters will be located at the Sheraton in downtown Sioux Falls.  There will be numerous tours, including the Corn Palace, Deadwood, Wall Drug, sculpture walks and the Denny Sanford Premier Center.  It should be a great convention for our local area since it is only an hour drive to Sioux Falls.

What can you say about the Viking’s game this past Sunday!  I admit that I begged God to allow them to win.  I was so nervous, but Diggs dug in and helped them win!  How about that for a rhyme!

A correction from last weeks column- it was Victoria Sterns who made the cakes for Mike Cox’s retirement party.

How wonderful of Kim Grussing and daughters to donate the new 3-D printer to Adrian High School in memory of husband and dad, Richard Grussing, who passed away earlier in 2017.  Thank you to the Grussing family!

Aren’t we lucky to have someone take over Dr. Hallum’s dental practice here in Adrian?  He has served the Adrian area for over forty years.  Welcome to Dr. Michelle Skaff. She is looking forward to meeting Dr. Hallum’s patients!

I receive the newsletter from Pax Christi Catholic Church in Eden Prairie, Mn.  On page thirteen there was a great article entitled “Lisa and Mark Cox making a home at Pax Christi.”  The article tells about their unusual road to Pax Christi, the variety of ministries they have been a part of and the hopes they have for the Eden Prairie church.  Good reading for a mom!

What are you good at?  Are you so busy thinking about what you’re not good at that you haven’t noticed your abilities?  Thinking about your abilities is not conceit, it prepares you to deal with life with confidence.  A confident person can handle the set backs that life has and not see them as failures.  Some things don’t work, but that doesn’t mean you failed,  You fail when you stop trying.  Let your mistakes guide you, train you.  At least when you try and it doesn’t work, you’ve learned not to try that way again.   This week, try something new.  Consider a negative event or a mistake as a positive opportunity.  What can you learn?  DK
