Panther Basketball News ~ Week of 01-17-18

The Panther girls and boys suffered four and three loses last week in basketball action.

GIRLS

CC-E 58  – ELLSWORTH 23

Injuries are taking a toll on the Panthers as they start off the NewYear.  On January 8, the Lady Panthers faced Clay Central-Everly without three of their regular players.  The Panthers fell to CC-E 58-23.

Leading the ladies was Ashlyn Meester with nine points and eight rebounds.  Morgan Dreesen added 7 points and Lizzie Chapa had five. The Panther girls are 3 and 8 for the season.

MCC  59 – ELLSWORTH 29

The Panthers traveled to  Slayton  January 5th,  missing two key starters including their top player. They were short handed having to start an eighth grade player at the varsity level and they were unable to field a B-squad team due to the lack of numbers combined with the three missing players.

Ellsworth shot 25 percent from the field and 47 percent from the free throw line.

Ashlyn Meester scored 17 in the game while Lizzie Chapa scored 10 more. Claire Popkes was the only other Panther to score and the seventh grade player had two points.

RTR 51 – ELLSWORTH 35

The Lady Panthers met up with RTR on January 1, 2018.  After leading at the half the Panthers fell in the second half to RTR with a final score of 51 to 35.

Ashlyn Meester led the Lady Ps with 13 points, six rebounds and four steals.   Lizzie Chapa contributed 12 points and six rebounds for Ellsworth.

HENDRICKS 36 

 ELLSWORTH 30

The Hendricks Grizzlies came to Ellsworth on January 2, and went home with a 36-30 win against the Ellsworth Panther ladies.  Leading the scoring for the Lady Panthers was Lizzie Chapa with 12 points.  Deven Dreesenpulled down seven rebounds and had three assists while Ashlyn Meester grabbed six rebounds for the Lady Panthers.

BOYS

HL-O  62, Ellsworth 58

Heron Lake-Okabena defeated Ellsworth 62-58 boys in a close contest on January 11th.

Seven players Panthers scored, including double-digit performances from Brandon Kramer (14) and Grant Jansma (12), while Noah Kruse, Sam Kramer and Zach Buntjer each tallied eight points.

The Panthers (1-8, 1-4) held a couple of five-point leads in the first half and held a seven-point advantage, 36-29, early in the second half but couldn’t hold on to the lead.

CC-E  50  –   ELLSWORTH 32

The first half of the game on January 8 against Clay Central -Everly,  saw the Panthers keeping the game within reach only to fall in the second half losing 50-32.

For Ellsworth, Grant Jansma led with 16 points and Brandon Kramer added 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.  Carter Boyenga came up with three steals for the Panthers.

Ellsworth’s overall record now stands at 1 and 8 overall.

MCC 70   – ELLSWORTH 42

2018 started with the Ellsworth Panthers traveling to Slayton on January 5th.  MCC took control of the game and outscored the Panthers 70-42.

Brandon Kramer led the Panthers with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
