The Adrian wrestlers traveled to Wabasso last Saturday to take part in the Wabasso Duals. They lost all three duals, as they faced ACGC, Wabasso/Red Rock Central, and Minneota.
ACGC defeated the Dragons by a 64-9 margin in the first round. Preston Nelson earned a decision in his 138 pound match, while Scot Edwards pinned Jordan Schultz in 2:58 in the HWT match. Those two wins would be the only two the Dragons could muster against the stout Falcon squad.
The Dragons dropped their second dual of the day by a 48-22 margin to W/RRC. The Bobcats took the lead after the first match, as their #5 ranked wrestler defeated Jesus Anaya by a 5-3 margin. Logan Taylor gave the Dragons a 4-3 lead with a 13-1 major decision over Vander Mathiowetz in the 113-pound bout. A 6-0 Bobcat decision at 120 gave W/RRC a 6-4 lead after three matches. Brent Hokeness wrestled a good match at 126 pounds, earning a 10-0 major decision over Sam Fenger. The Bobcats earned a fall at 132 pounds, before Preston Nelson tech falled Gabe Martin in 6:00. Chandler Combs earned a fall over Luke Wagner at 145 pounds with 1 second left in the 2nd period, before the Bobcats won the next 6 matches with a fall and 5 forfeits. Scot Edwards put together a decent match at HWT, coming back from a 2-0 decision to earn a 5-4 win over Kyle Jacobsen.
Adrian took on the #7 ranked team in class A, Minneota, in the third round of the day. Jesus Anaya got the Dragons off to a good start, as he earned a 6-3 decision over Eric Carasco in the 103 pound match. Logan Taylor extended the Dragon lead with a fall over Jonah Gruenes at 113 pounds. The Vikings tore through the next three matches winning by fall in each bout. They continued their run with a decision at 138 pounds. Chandler Combs earned a major decision at 145 pounds, before the Vikings won the next six matches. Scot Edwards took on the returning state champion, Trent Esping, in the HWT bout. Edwards lost, but battled to a 3-2 match against the top-ranked HWT, ending the dual with Minneota on top by a score of 60-13.
Scot Edwards was named the varsity OW, as he went 2-1 on the day, with his only loss coming in a 3-2 match with the returning state champion and top-ranked HWT in class A.
