You know it’s cold when Minnesotans greet you with “Brrrrrrr”. Yes, we all have something to talk about besides the Vikings. It was a cardiovascular workout for those watching the game. It is still hard to believe they came through for the team, fans and Minnesota. Sunday could be monumental.

I was fortunate to be out of town for the Christmas cold spell. My youngest son and daughter-in-law treated us to a guided trip to Thailand, Cambodia and Turkey. It was first class from the plane ride on Turkish Air from Chicago to Istanbul and Bangkok. We had other in country flights. I have never had smoked salmon and fruit before they served my choice of lamb chops. The other choice was grilled fish. The dessert cart had three glass tiers full of the best displays of goodness you could want, it was great and my choices were all good.

The two weeks we were gone went fast and we saw it all. A local guide met us at every airport with a driver. Two or three days at each location with eight or ten hours of touring each day. We did a lot. We had an elephant ride in the River Kwai. Louise loved the part going down the bank and back and having the river up to the elephant’s eyes with his trunk sucking air.

We toured the Floating Market in a dugout narrow boat. Bought stuff we didn’t need. Then we flew to Cambodia with a new guide and a driver to tour most every temple they have. They were built during the fifth to the seventh century. I felt like Harrison Ford. I didn’t look or act like him but I did do it with a cane and walker. I had a lot of temple dust on the wheels of the walker. The steps were not conducive to the disabled but we made most of them. Louise was pleased that I didn’t die but made a good effort to.

I received a letter from William E. Leopold renewing his papers. He included the following:

A jumper cable walked into a bar and ordered a drink. The Bartender said “OK you can have one, but don’t START anything.

That is tough Minnesota humor. We appreciate it.
