Suzanne Buffington, 86, of Luverne passed away Thursday, November 30, in the Sanford Luverne Hospital. Her funeral was held on Tuesday, December 5, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. Two van loads from Adrian braved the icy roads to attend her funeral. Sue was a member of Court Santa Maria #247 in Adrian and was Vice Regent and then Grand Regent in 2016. Sue was very active in her church and her community. She received the Bishop’s Medal from Bishop Harrington in 2014 for her outstanding work in the church. Sue and her late husband, Richard are the parents of eight children; Mary, Mark, Ann, Jean, Diane, Lynn, David and John. Sue had sixteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Sue will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends. Blessed be the memory of Sue Buffington, one of God’s chosen servants.
On Leo Hendel’s memorial brochure was a sketch of a hammer and a saw. It is the perfect example of Leo’s life. Leo used his talents to build new structures and remodel old. Leo was gentle and unassuming, and everyone he met became a friend. Leo is survived by his four children, Vickie, Curt, Mike and Michelle and eleven grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leo will be happy to finally join his wife, Joannie, who passed away three years ago. Blessed be the memory of a great and humble carpenter.
It has been so much fun attending all the Christmas open houses in the area! Adrian State Bank had a great turn out last Tuesday even with the roads being icy. They served delicious sandwiches, Christmas cookies and hot cider. They have about a ten foot tree in the lobby. It was business as usual, but the guests enjoyed visiting over a great snack!
Thank you to Lynn Lorang Dearey for her great story about depression and suicide, and to Kristine Kern for writing the story for the Nobles County Review. According to statistics, suicide is one of the highest causes of death in our country. It was startling to read Lynn’s story and then reread it with tears flowing each time I read it over. Please don’t miss this story in the December 6 edition of the Nobles County Review.
The Knights of Columbus of St. Adrian hosted a Christmas party this past Sunday evening. Soup, sandwiches and dessert were enjoyed by the many people attending and afterwards Bingo was played. Prizes of turkeys, chickens and maybe a pigeon were given to the winners. Father Colletti entertained by playing his accordion, and the audience sang along to the Christmas Carols. It was a delightful evening of fellowship.
