Wrestlers compete in Dell Rapids ~ Edwards brings home the gold

Scott Edwards needed about a minute total over the course of the day, as he earned two first period falls to claim the HWT title at the Top of the Rock tournament in Dell Rapids, SD last Saturday. The Dragons had four other wrestlers place as well, Breyer Hieronimus, Jesus Anaya, Logan Taylor, and Preston Nelson.

106B – Breyer Hieronimus went 3-1 on the day, earning a 3rd place finish.  Breyer won his first match by fall over Reid Montreal of McCook Central-Montrose in 1:13.  He lost his next match, before pinning his final two opponents to claim the 3rd place medal

106 – Jesus Anaya earned his first varsity wins, going 3-1 on his way to a 3rd place finish.  Jesus pinned his first opponent in 1:20, before dropping a hard fought 3-2 decision to #4 Mason Irlbeck of Wabasso/RRC.  Anaya won his final two bouts by tech fall and major decision to claim 3rd place.

113 – Logan Taylor received a bye to the semis where he took on Sage Ottoson of Dell Rapids.  Taylor pinned the Quarrier wrestler in 3:25 to advance to the finals.  He squared off against Canyon Lowman also of Dell Rapids in the championship bout.  Lowman earned the victory, defeating Taylor by a 10-4 margin, putting Logan in the 2nd place spot on the podium.

113 – Quentin Wolf also participated in the 113-pound division, losing both of his matches.

126 – Dominiq Canales earned his first varsity win, going 1-2 on the day.  Dom lost his first match by tech fall, before pinning his Wabasso/RRC opponent in 4:54 to advance in the wrestlebacks.  He lost his next match by fall, eliminating him from the tournament.

132 – Logan Sherer went 2-2 in his weight class, as he was eliminated before the medal round.  Sherer won his first match by fall in 3:15, before taking on Caden Lamer of Tri-Valley.  Lamer earned a major decision over the Dragon freshman, putting him in the wrestlebacks.  A tech fall over Layne Hess of Dell Rapids, advanced Sherer to the consolations semis, where he was defeated and eliminated from the tourney.

132 – Brent Hokeness went 3-2 on the day, but was eliminated one match before the medal round.  Hokeness won his first match by fall over Layne Hess of Dell Rapids.  A loss in the quarterfinals put Brent in the wrestlebacks.  He earned a major decision and a decision in the wrestlebacks, before losing by fall in the consolation semis.

138 – Preston Nelson went 4-1 on the day and ended up splitting the 3rd place points, as he reached his daily match limit heading into the 3rd place bout.  Nelson won his first match by fall in 1:13, before losing in the quarterfinals to Kaleb Crownover of Bon Homme/Scotland.  Nelson won his next match by fall in 34 seconds, and continued to advance through the wrestlebacks with another victory over Brayden Gee of Dell Rapids 10-1.  An injury default in the consolation semis, advanced Nelson into the 3rd place bout, where he was unable to compete due to the 5 match rule.

138 – Axel Martinez also competed in the 138-pound bracket, losing both of his matches.

145 – Chandler Combs went 1-2 on the day, not placing.  Combs won his first match by fall in 49 seconds over his opponent from Parker.  Chandler lost by fall in the semis, before dropping a decision in OT in the consolations semis to end his day.

152 – Jaime Castenada also went 1-2 on the day in his weight class.  Castenada lost his first match by fall in 1:24 to Parker Schreier of McCook Central/Montrose  He earned a fall in his first wrestleback match to stay alive in the tourney.  Jaime came out on the wrong end of an 8-7 decision in his next consolation round match, eliminating him from the tourney.

160 – Corbin Burcham went 0-2 on the day, losing by fall and by a one-point decision, respectively.

170 – Max Lehmann also went 0-2 on the day, bowing out of the tourney before the medal round.

182 – Beau Bullerman earned a bye to the semis, before losing his next two matches, eliminating him from the tournament.

HWT – Scott Edwards earned a pair of falls on his way to the HWT title.  He pinned his Bon Homme/Scotland opponent in 23 seconds, before pinning Nick Palmer of Dell Rapids, in the first minute of the first period as well.

Scot Edwards was named the Outstanding Wrestler for the Dragons, as he was the lone champion for the Adrian squad.
