Worthington, MN, September 28, 2017: The Disabled American Veterans of Minnesota is proud to announce the rollout of the Nobles County Veterans Transportation Program. In a partnership with Nobles County and the Sioux Falls Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), the DAV of Minnesota will have a vehicle stationed in Worthington to provide free rides to the Veterans of Nobles County and surrounding areas.
The vehicle is operated by Volunteer Drivers and coordinated by Nobles County Veterans Service Officer Bill Brockberg. “Veterans are picked up and taken to their appointments by one of our dedicated volunteers. This service is offered free of charge and is available to any veteran with appointments scheduled at or by the Sioux Falls VA, including the Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Spirit Lake, Iowa,” said Trent Dilks, Director of Transportation for the DAV of Minnesota. “Spouses, or caregivers, may also ride along in the vehicle if space is available.” Mr. Dilks added.
Tuesday, October 3rd, Brockberg and another volunteer driver, Mike Vosburgh of Worthington, will be completing their last step in getting certified to be volunteer van drivers and will be bringing VAMC’s DAV-donated Van back to Worthington.
The DAV of Minnesota is currently searching for additional volunteers to occasionally transport area veterans to their medical appointments. Volunteers are registered through the Sioux Falls VAMC and there is no need for the volunteer to be a veteran. The schedule is extremely flexible and drivers can volunteer to be available one day a week or one day a month.
The Ford Transit will be parked at the 9th Street Nobles County Government Center parking lot. Anyone interested in Volunteering, or in need of a ride, can contact CVSO Bill Brockberg at (507) 295-5292. The hope is to find some Volunteer Drivers and the program to start rolling in October.
