Graveside services for Robert Monroe Kieser were held on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish, SD. Robert, age 77, died on September 1, 2017, in Sun City, AZ. He was born on April 9, 1940, in Wessington Springs, SD, to Byron and Violet (Monroe) Kieser. He was the second of four children.
Bob married Lynn McCain on May 9, 1959, at her parents’ home in Spearfish, SD, and to this union three children were born, Pamela, Bonnie and Michael. Bob completed his college education in Greeley, CO, with his B.S. in Music Education. In 1969, Bob got his Master’s degree at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. He taught music, both vocal and instrumental, history, civics, and geography for 35 years. His first teaching job was in Alliance, NE. Over the years he also taught in Canton, SD; Bristol, SD, Ortonville, MN, Adrian, MN, Trimont, MN, Custer, SD, Rangely, CO, and Vernal, UT.
Bob and Lynn relocated to Sun City, AZ, in 2000, after retirement, where he was very involved in Kiwanis, a group that does a wide range of service projects for the community, especially the youth. He was also very active with the local food bank through the Kiwanis Club and sang in the West Valley Chorale for many years.
He is survived by his wife Lynn; children, Pam (Mike) Konz, their children David (Megan), Paul (Ginger), James (Amber), Jonathan (Brooke) and Kaitlyn (Scott) Voss; Bonnie (Bryan) Green, their children Kelsey and Helen (Brian) Tome; and Mike (Diane) Kieser; and 10 great-grandchildren; sister Bonnie Ann (Tom) Lewis; brother-in-law Larry Blow; sisters-in-law Phyllis Kieser and Joan Leeper.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents; brother Bill; sister Trudy Blow and brother-in-law Bill Leeper.
