A Mass of Christian Burial for Florian Loosbrock, age 89 of Lismore, MN, was held on Monday, September 18, 2017 at St Anthony Catholic Church in Lismore, MN, officiated by Monsignor Rick Colletti. Florian passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017, in Sioux Falls, SD. Florian was born on July 20, 1928 to Frank and Anna (Merfeld) Loosbrock on the family farm near St. Kilian, MN. He was raised on the farm and attended St. Kilian School through the eighth grade. He then worked on the family farm.
Florian married Mary Ann Winter on December 26, 1950. In 1950, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. He received his initial training at Ft. Hood and then went to Korea where he specialized in tank repair. Following his discharge in 1953, Florian returned to farming near St. Kilian and later moved to Lismore. He also worked for the Rushmore Co-op. In 1968, Florie started Loosbrock Digging and was initially installing high voltage electrical lines for Rural Electric Association. Over the years, the company provided all types of excavation work.
Florie and Mary Ann enjoyed going to Arizona during the winter for over 30 years. Florie enjoyed baseball, especially the Minnesota Twins. He liked to spend time with his family, camping, playing cards and dancing to polka music. He always had Tootsie Pops for the grandchildren. He was a life-time member of the V.F.W., American Legion and Knights of Columbus.
Florian is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his children, Rosanne (Mike) Sloan of Rio Rancho, NM; Patrick (Teri) Loosbrock of Texarkana, AR; Kay (Randy) Wolf of Worthington, MN; Nancy (Earl) Wolf of St. Paul, MN; Bruce (Brenda) Loosbrock of Lismore, MN; Neal (Debbie) Loosbrock of Lynn Haven, FL; 23 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Helen Loosbrock and Vaughn Winter.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Ralph, Edmund (Coletta), Margaret (Clem) Suedkamp, Geneva (Hank) Fritz, Alvina (Leander) Ruffing, Mary (Alfred) Schartz, John, and Francis (Delores).
