Adrian News 8-23-17

On Monday, August 14th, the family and friends of Lila Nelson gathered at Zion Lutheran Church in Adrian, to say their last good byes.  Lila’s funeral service was officiated by Pastor Kerry Boese, with family members also taking part.  Pastor Boese sat close to Lila’s casket to sing, play his guitar and speak about Lila and her life.  Lila loved quilting.  She made many beautiful quilts, and helped others whenever she could.  Lila knew great sorrow when she lost her son Doug in 1996, her husband Edgar in 2000 and her daughter Patsy in 2010.  The church was full from front to back.  Lunch was served to all who attended.  Lila will be missed by her family and the many friends who came to pay their respects to a good woman.  Blessed be the memory of Lila Nelson.

The “two buck” meal was held at the Adrian Senior Center last Monday.  Twenty six hungry folks were served a meat loaf dinner and it was mighty good!  The sponsor of the meal was Sterling Drug, with two employees enjoying the meal also.

I giggled as I read last week’s column.  It stated that Marlene and “Boysie” Bullerman did not get 2 cans of corn one year!  It should have read 2 EARS of corn.  Knowing Marlene, she giggled too!

Lots of good, welcomed rain!   Thank you God!

St. Adrian Parish is blessed to have Natalie Cook move to Georgia to do missionary work among young people.  God will continue to bless her!

Well known teacher Esther Klein’s funeral will be Thursday, August 24th, in Lismore.  More about this next week.

I do believe the 4-H kids are a special group of young people!  4-H has proven that some of the best young boys and girls receive a solid and strong start in their elementary years and continue solid in life.  Great pictures in the Nobles County Review and the Daily Globe.  All kids are winners!

Good to visit with Sam Voss last Sunday.  She just finished getting her Masters Degree.  Sam is a teacher and a coach in Fulda, MN.  It takes lots of hard work and dedication to earn your Masters Degree.  Congratulations Sam Voss.  Sam and Adam live in Adrian.

A good crowd attended the salad/sandwich luncheon hosted by the First Presbyterian Church of Lismore.  The luncheon was held Monday, August 21, at the American Legion in Lismore.  The food was great!

The empty front page in the Nobles County Review really startled readers!  What would we do without newspapers?

It’s too bad that the solar eclipse was blocked by thunderstorms for us here in Adrian.  It did get really dark though!  Next time we have a chance to see a solar eclipse is in 2024.  Maybe our luck will be better!  Be sure to hang on to your glasses, although there will be new technology by then!

As I watched the total eclipse on Monday I had only one thought “ How great our God is”.
