Lismore News 8-23-17

The First Presbyterian Annual Outdoor Worship Service will be held on Sunday, August 27th, in the Lismore Park beginning at 10:30 a.m.   Everyone is invited to attend and stay for the potluck picnic that will follow.  Bring a dish to pass. Plates, silverware, and drinks will be provided.

The former Lismore Bar is making plans to re-open under the name of “Winter’s Bar & Grill”.  They have begun to advertise for wait staff and other help. Everyone is anxious to have this popular venue open on Main Street!

Ken & Vickie Leinen entertained their grandson, Xxander, for a few days last week.  Vickie and her daughter, Kaitlin Bullerman, returned the little guy to his parents, Jen & Josh Gehloff, in Stewartville, MN, on Friday, just in time to celebrate his 3rd birthday.  They also took Xxander’s older sister, Syd, shopping for her belated birthday.  A visit with Vickie’s dad, Art Brandt, in Rochester, MN was also on the agenda.

Patty Buysse and her sister, Joyce Kanten, of Fulda, MN, attended the 90th birthday party for their aunt Dorothy (Knips) Munns at St. Peter, MN on Saturday afternoon.  Dorothy and her husband Bob recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary as well.

Congratulations to Katie Wieneke who was the winner of the Ladies Club Tournament at the Adrian Country Club on Saturday.  She is the daughter of Steve & Laurie Wieneke and will be a junior at USF this fall.

The Lismore Fire & Rescue had another great turnout for their annual fund raiser on Saturday evening. One couldn’t go wrong with “all-you-can-eat” BBQ pork or turkey!  The soft-serve ice cream was a hit with the young and old.  If you were lucky enough to win a prize at the event, that was an extra bonus! Cliff Altman introduced Nate Harberts as the newest member of the department.  He also announced that Alex LeBrun, Tom Knips, and Adam Diekmann have completed the Fire Fighter 1 training, which is a huge accomplishment. Cliff also noted that the town of Kenneth, MN along with nine sections are part Lismore’s coverage area. The new Lismore Bar owners, Ron and Tamisha, were introduced and given a round of applause. Thank you to all Fire & Rescue personnel for your service! You are appreciated.

“Team Phoebe” participated in the annual Eastern South Dakota Heart Walk on Saturday, August 19,  at Falls Park in Sioux Falls, SD.   Phoebe Vargas was born with a congenital heart defect in November 2009.  She endured three open-heart surgeries, the first one when she was just 7 days old!  She had another surgery at four months and the third when she was 18 months old, in addition to several hospitalizations and “way too many” pokes, tests, procedures, and doctor appointments.  Phoebe’s mom, the former Jean Lorang (daughter of Ruth and the late Marv Lorang) says her daughter Phoebe, a cute little girl with a “crazy heart”, has taught her family to count their blessings and live each moment to the fullest. Today Phoebe is 7 years old and ready to start 2nd grade at St. Mary School in Dell Rapids, SD.

Congratulation to Alice & Kishan Singh of Sioux Falls on the arrival of their daughter, Lilliona Priya, on Saturday, August 19th. The little gal joins an older sister, Kali.  Proud grandparents are Gene & Barb Reker of rural Lismore/Adrian.
