Ellsworth cheering for Boom family at Little League World Series

The Ellsworth area has ties to the Little League World Series.  The Sioux Fall Little League team has advanced to the Little League World Series in South Williamsport Pennsylvania.  The team manager is BJ Boom who grew up in Ellsworth and graduated from Ellsworth High School.  BJ’s son Logan is a player on the team and his proud grandparents Marlin and Mary Boom of Ellsworth will be travelling out to Pennsylvania to cheer Logan and his team on as they take on Greenville, NC at 7 p.m. this Friday.

The fact that the Sioux Falls team has made it to the elite 16 team Little League World Series tournament is an accomplishment few teams can boast about but this is the first year that Sioux Falls has had a Little League team.  To earn a place in a tournament of this caliber in your inaugural year is unheard of.  This team has shown they can come from behind and win in dramatic fashion as in their game against Missouri in the Midwest Regional semi-finals.  Sioux Falls entered the bottom of the sixth inning trailing 5-1 when they put together some big hits and forced some errors from the Missouri team to pull off the win.  They then moved on to beat Webb City, MO in convincing fashion by a score of 6-0 to win the Midwest Regional Championship and earn a berth in the World Series.

These 12 year olds are putting Sioux Falls on the map and serving notice that there is some great baseball being played in the Sioux Falls area.  The World Series games will be aired on ESPN so tune in at 7 p.m. this Friday.  The Ellsworth community will put away their Panther gear for the day and put on the Sioux Falls Little League colors to cheer on two of their own in BJ and Logan.  Good Luck Sioux Falls and BJ and Logan.
