Court Santa Maria #247 Catholic Daughters provided a picnic lunch for the many clients and staff at the D.A.C. in Worthington on Thursday, June 8th.  Grilled pork burgers and all the fixings, including a wonderful assortment of salads, deviled eggs, calico beans, fruit, and goodies were on the menu.  Many smiles, “thank you’s”, hugs, and handshakes expressed joy that was evident when they passed through the buffet line. The Catholic Daughters have partnered with the D.A.C. for over 50 years, interacting with them and enjoying a friendship that emulates their motto “Unity and Charity”.  Lynnette Domeyer, Lenore Domeyer, Sue Buffington, Vida Konz, Carolyn Elias, Paula Goedken, Rita Domagala, Carol Rupp, Micki Croat, and Cindy Bullerman were the hostesses for the picnic.  Thanks to the C.D.A. members of calling group one who provided the majority of the food!  “The Lord loves a cheerful giver.”

Jessie, Brooklynn and Roman Jeffery, and Carrie, Reese, Wesley and Parker Kunkel, spent this past weekend with Tony & Marcia Kunkel. They came especially for the surprise 60th birthday/40th Anniversary party for Bruce & Mary Brunk. The party was hosted by their kids Scott, Michelle, Makayla, Kaitlyn & Riley Brunk and Jill & Joey Roush. Russ & Melanie Penning graciously hosted this event at their farm by Wilmont. They managed to pull off the surprise party, but the biggest surprise was when Jill & Joey (who live in Texas) came around the corner of the building! There were many other family & friends present including Bob Lien from Salt Lake City, UT,  and Jeff Taylor from the Twin Cities area. Bob & Jeff were two of Bruce’s wedding attendants.  Two of the couple’s sisters, Barb Pringl and Marcia Kunkel were also in attendance. They had a great time with lots of pictures taken throughout the evening.

Reading the Argus Leader, I learned how desperate some of the ranchers in SD are for rain.  They are selling off their herds because of a lack of feed.  Please pray for a good soaking rain!

Last Wednesday, June 7, the Catholic Daughters of Lismore held their annual hot dish and salad luncheon in the church parlor.  It was a cool place to be on a hot day!  Many delicious hot dishes, salads and pastries were served.  We could choose from a variety of cold drinks or coffee.  The crew working north of the church ate their fill, but left enough for the rest of us to enjoy!  Thanks to the  Lismore C.D.A. for a great job!

Laura Lorang was the guest of honor at a bridal shower on Saturday morning, June 10, at the American Legion Hall in Lismore.  Laura is the bride-to-be of Andrew Fodness.  Her wedding colors of plum and tan were used in decorating the hall.  Polished tree slices were used to hold a jar of fresh baby’s breath on all the tables.  Those attending were treated to delicious hot dishes, fresh fruit and pastries, along with raspberry tea and coffee.  LuAnn Reisdorfer and Natalie Recker saw to my every need.  Thank you ladies!  The bride received so many lovely gifts.  It was good to see Brian Fodness holding his three week old grandchild.  Mavis was busy taking lots of pictures.  Laura will make a beautiful bride.  Congratulations Laura and Andy!

It was good to visit with Mary (Tom) Krogman who caught me up on the activity of the Klein ‘sisters’!

I found two great sayings while reading the Methodist “Crosswinds”…… “The greatest gift I ever had came from God—I call him Dad!”  “Let us honor our fathers every day, not only on June 18th!”

Don’t forget the $2.00 meal at the Senior Dining Center on June 16.  Call Marie Schwebach at 483-2588 if you would like to come.  Thanks Berta Wieneke for being the provider!!

Last Thursday, Sylvester Vortherms of Wilmont, paid me a visit.  Sylvester was famous for his large asparagus patch northeast of Adrian.  He now lives in Wilmont and has only a small garden.  Sylvester spent many years working at the rest area west of Adrian.  What a delightful visitor.

Remember, the Adrian Ambulance Service is looking for new members.  Join them if you would like to be involved!

Happy Father’s Day to all dads!   Don’t forget to pray for rain!!  Our prayers were answered.
