Adrian News 5-31-17

After Adrian’s High School graduation on Friday evening, May 26, an open house was held for Mitchell Lonneman, son of Ron and Leah, at his home on Maine Street.  Even though mom, Leah, had hip surgery several weeks ago, there was no need to worry as family members, good neighbors and friends pitched in to help.  The large crowd was happy to celebrate in a tent attached to the garage.  I was also able to admire their beautiful back yard.  Mitchell’s medals, scrapbooks and team shirts were all on display.  The ice cream was a hit with all the party goers.  Congratulations Mitchell Lonneman.

Finally our weather is going to warm up!!  I wonder…will the corn be knee high by the fourth of July?

In the area, 35 towns and cities held Memorial Day services!  What a great way to honor our Veterans who have died and also who are living!  Thanks to all the people responsible for putting out the flags at the cemeteries and on Maine Street!

St. Adrian is fortunate to have Natalie Cook join the office staff this summer.  Natalie is the daughter of Ben and Karen.  She will be working with the youth of the Parish.  Good news, and a reminder for the parents to sign your children up for the daily Vacation Bible studies.  This is so important for all children!

Memorial Day was a great day for Adrian!   After a heavy rain and fierce winds on Sunday, I wondered if there had been much damage.  St. Adrian had an 8:30a.m. Mass with patriotic songs, followed by a trip to the cemeteries.  The cemeteries were beautiful.   There were flowers, flags and decorations everywhere I looked.  Father Colletti was the speaker as Legion members laid wreaths on the graves of local servicemen. Father Colletti said, “There is no greater love than one who has laid down his life for another.”   The twenty-one gun salute and Taps always bring a lump to my throat.  This was done at both cemeteries.

Everyone who attended was invited to the Legion for a delicious meal, that was served by the Legion Post #32 Auxiliary.  A  great program was put on by the Boy and Girl Scouts.  About one hundred people were in attendance.  Thank you to all the Legion and Auxiliary members!

From the beautiful cemetery grounds, to the smiles on the Klein family’s faces for the wonderful tribute to Danny Klein, to the children who were brought by parents to teach them to appreciate and respect those who have given their lives for us, to the friends who come home each year to remember, Memorial Day is a special day!!  Thank you to all who make it special!

Virgil and Mary Schutz, formally of Adrian, returned for the Memorial Day services.  They have been married for sixty five years!!  Send them a card.  It would tickle them to hear from you.  Their address is  104 W. Veterans Drive, Luverne, MN 56156.
