A Mass of Christian Burial for LaVonne Katherine “Vonnie” Metz, 90,
of Lismore was held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the St Anthony Catholic Church, Lismore, MN. Burial was in the St Adrian Cemetary, Adrian, MN. LaVonne died Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. She was born August 16, 1926 in Westside Township, near Adrian, to Leo and Katherine (Leguil) Wallrich.
Vonnie graduated from St. Adrian High School in 1943. She enrolled at St. Catherine University in St. Paul in business education. She began teaching business classes in Olivia and Worthington.
Vonnie was united in marriage to Gilbert Metz on June 10, 1950. They farmed in the Adrian and Lismore area. Vonnie resumed her teaching career at St. Anthony Catholic School in Lismore and the Adrian Public School. Vonnie and Gilbert retired in 1982 and spent the next twenty-five years wintering in Texas.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Anthony Council of Catholic Women and a 50 year member of the St. Anthony Catholic Daughters. She was also a member of the Lismore American Legion Auxiliary.
Vonnie is remembered by her three children, Gene (Mary) Metz, Lismore; Lisa (Leon)Anderson, Fergus Falls; Alan (Deb) Metz, Ames IA; eight grandchildren; Michael (Nicole) Metz, Jeanine (Mark Bonderson) Kahle, Janelle (Christopher) McAlear, Bryan (Heather) Metz, Leah (Remko) Fehr, Scott (Kristine Kennedy) Anderson, Krysta (Nick) Bryars and Kyle Metz; thirteen great-grandchildren, Morgan, Austin, Brycen and Jaxon Metz, Jacob, Ava and Emma Kahle, Sidney and Logan McAlear, Owen Metz, Jack and Andrew Fehr, and Benjamin Bryars; and one great-great grandson, Aiden Vanderlinden.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gilbert and a sister, Lorraine Lenz.
