Dragons at State Knowledge Bowl

On Thursday, April 6 and Friday, April 7, Adrian High School was represented by 5 students at the State Knowledge Bowl meet at Craguns in Brainerd, MN.  The following students attending were Colin Varley, Nate Lonneman, Josh Zemler, Austin Metz and Blake Madison.

Thursday’s events included a formal banquet for all of the participating teams from Minnesota.  After the banquet, all of the teams participated in their written round examination.   This consisted of 60 multiple choice questions to be completed in 45 minutes.    Adrian received 34 points.

Friday’s events consisted of a breakfast for the teams and 5 oral rounds from 8:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  Each round consisted of 45 questions.    After the final round, Adrian ended with 75 points.

The Knowledge Bowl program has a total of 950 teams in the state of Minnesota.  A total of 48 teams participated at the State Meet.  Adrian participated in the Class A division, consisting of 24 teams.  Class AA also had 24 teams.

Adrian finished 23rd out of 24th in Class A.  Glencoe Sliver Lake was the Class A Champion.

Adrian did receive a special honor at the State Meet.  They were given the Heritage Spirit Award only given to one team from Class A and one team from Class AA.   This was an amazing honor as the criteria for the award included:

• Attitude toward all members of the team

•  Attitude toward other teams

• Attitude toward readers/judges/computer operators

• Attitude toward team advisors

• Attitude in winning/losing; accepting victory or defeat graciously

In general, overall conduct.

Overall, the students had a great time and represented Adrian High School proudly at the State Meet.  “I am extremely proud of this group and everyone who participated in Knowledge Bowl this year”stated coach Robert Remme.. They have been a great group to work with!

Junior High Knowledge Bowl is open to students in grades 7 – 9 and Senior High Knowledge Bowl is open to students in grades 9 – 12.  The season will begin in October.
