Adrian Cub Scouts pinewood derby held

On Saturday, March 4th the Adrian Cub Scouts held their annual Pinewood Derby Race.  This year they also challenged the community to enter a car and race. The Girl Scouts excepted the challenge, along with several parents and siblings.

The Cub Scouts ran first where Ryker Eidhammer took 3rd place, Evan Bierman, 2nd place, and Austin Bruns took 1st place.  The 3 of them earned the right to race their derby cars in the Sioux Council finals April 1st in Sioux Falls.  The Cub Scouts were competitive at the Sioux Council finals, but fell short of placing.  I would like to congratulate them on their accomplishments. This was also the last Pinewood Derby Race as a Cub Scout for Evan Bierman, Austin Bruns and Bruce Farinella since they will be graduating out of Cub Scouts this year.

The Adrian Girl Scouts ran the next heat of the day. The Girl Scouts came to race!  In their first Pinewood Derby Race they built some very competitive cars. The results were Riley Hieronimus took 3rd place, Lauren Madison, 2nd place and Angel Bruns took 1st.  The Girls Scouts do not have a championship race to qualify for this year. Hopefully next year there will be an opportunity to compete in Sioux Falls against other Girl Scouts.

We also held a community race where the parents, siblings and members of the community could race. In that race Nate Croatt took 3rd place, Richard Bruns, 2nd place and MacKenzie Miller took 1st place.

The last race of the day combined the 3 winners of each race.  Nate Croatt took 3rd place overall, MacKenzie Miller, 2nd place overall and Angel Bruns took 1st place overall.  (Notice there were no cub Scouts in the overall race!)  Congratulations to all the winners! Great job in building your cars.  There was also an award given to the car that ran the fastest single run of the day. This award was given to Girl Scout, Angel Bruns.  Congratulations!

During the event there was an opportunity for parents to have their children participate in a kids ID program sponsored by the Ben Franklin Masonic Lodge from Luverne, Mn.  Adrian high school peer helpers MacKenzie Miller and Kaylee Nelson, along with Bryce Stoltenberg and his family ran the program.  The kids took photos, finger prints, voice recording, and a cheek swab. This was all put into a envelope and was given to the parents to keep in case of the unthinkable.

The event was very successful.  We hope to be able to do it again next year, and hope to get more community members racing.

We would like to thank the Adrian Elementary School and Russ Lofthus for the use of the gym and equipment.  Finally I would like to congratulate all the winners and participants in the races and activities.  See you all next year!
