Courtney Holmes was guest of honor at a bridal shower held Saturday morning, April 1st, at the American Legion, Adrian. Courtney is the daughter of Dan and Kaylan and is the bride to be of Kyle Henning, son of Jerry and Rose of Adrian. The head table was the center of attention as it was covered with a beautiful crocheted tablecloth made by Grandmother Marian Springman. The flowers at the head table were arranged and designed by Jill Wolf who has Adrian Floral south of Adrian. The guests were treated to a delicious luncheon and seated at the tables that had vases of real baby breath. Courtney has chosen navy and blush as her colors. There were three grandmothers in attendance all seated at the head table plus two mothers and lovely maid of honor. Courtney received many lovely and useful gifts. Congratulations Courtney and Kyle!
Many readers have asked about the flag ceremony at Sy Lonneman’s funeral. With permission from the Lonneman family I will try to describe what I observed at the funeral mass. At the close of Mass, Dan Dingmann and son brought forward the folded flag (one given to each Veteran) and Sy’s two brothers Anthony and Orville covered Sy’s coffin with the flag and then stepped back and saluted. It was a very touching moment and many in the church had tears flowing. The flag covered casket was wheeled out of the church for the last time to the cemetery for Sy’s final resting place. The American Legion of Adrian stood at attention as final prayers were said and the flag folded and presented to Sy’s wife Helen. A 21 gun salute was rendered and taps played . It was good to have all the granchildren and great grandchildren witness the honor bestowed on a purple heart veteran who was there beloved grandfather, Sy Lonneman.
I understand that every flag given to one in military service has been flown over the United State Capital. Special military personnel have the honor flying the flag, then folding it up and placed in special boxes to be sent to those who request them. God Bless our Veterans and God Bless America.
Some things that impressed me this last week:
Sitting beside lovely Carley Jo Wolf and hearing how she will graduated from Mankato State with a four year degree.
Seeing a huge bird flying by my apartment. Its wing spread had to be 40 inches. I don’t know where it landed as I have no north windows.
Being grateful for an arm when I need one!
Hearing lots of Adrian folks went to the Rodeo in Sioux Falls.
Having people say my face looks pretty good after cancer treatment.
In Worthington’s Daily Globe front page April 3, 2017 was a great story about “Feed My Starving Children”. Volunteers by the hundreds met in the Worthington Arena to pack food for millions of starving people all over the world. Among the many families who answered the call was a family from Adrian. Ryan and Lisa Kruger and their children Drake, Jordan and Payton. They stated in the Globe that they have been blessed and wanted to do something good to give back. What a great opportunity for their family.
Palm Sunday and Easter are fast approaching. Let us all, in our area, help on another and let us all worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Our deep sympathy to Vince and Mary Mulder in the loss of their dear daughter, Karen (Mulder) Sedio. Karen’s memorial service was held March 26, 2017 at Heritage Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, SD. Karen was a day care provider and took good care of 68 children. Karen graduated from Adrian High School and had many good friends and classmates. She will be dearly missed. Blessed be the memory of Karen (Mulder) Sedio.
