Dragons Bow out of Boys Section Tournament

The second 3A subsection semifinal played in Worthington on Thursday, March 9th, was played between the second-seeded Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers and the third-seeded Adrian Dragons.

The Dragons were quick out of the gate in the first half, knocking in the first four points of the game and going on a scoring run up 24-15 mid-way into the first half.  W-WG fought their way back into the game and the teams headed into halftime with the Dragons up by three, 34-31.  Westbrook-Walnut Grove came back out of the locker room in the second half defensively minded.  The Westbrook-Walnut Grove defensive pressure forced Dragon turnovers and poor shot choices.  The Dragons were only able to muster 22 points in the second half to Westbrook-Walnut Grove’s 34.  The Chargers of Westbrook prevailed with a 65-56 win to knock the Dragons out of Section play and end the Dragon season.

Zachary Hendel led the Dragons with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Mitchell Lonneman and Zachary Bierman each added 10 points. Jacob Stamer added 8 points in the Dragons effort.  The Dragons finished fourth in the Red Rock Conference with a 10-6 record and an overall record of 16-10.

The Dragons have nine Seniors who put on their Dragon uniforms for the last time last Thursday.  The leadership and team spirit of Seniors; Jacob Stamer, Frank Serrao, Sach Bierman, Tristian White, Nate Lonneman, Zach Hendel, Dylan Werkman, Mitchell Lonneman and Evan Swank, will be missed next year on the court.
