A slow start for the Adrian girls’ basketball team led to a third straight loss for the Dragons as they were beat by the Wolverines of Mountain Lake Area 60-47. The loss drops the Dragons two games below the five hundred mark with an 8-10 record. Their Red Rock Conference mark slips to 7-5 as they head into the final stretch of their season. This week the Dragons will travel to Ellsworth on Thursday night before making a trip to Fulda for a Saturday afternoon game against the Raiders.
Traveling to MLA to do battle with the Wolverines the Dragons spotted the host team nine points before a Lexi Slater offensive rebound gave Adrian their first points of the night making it a 9-2 game at the 15:25 mark. Another five points by MLA made it 14-2 before Moriah Bullerman slowed the bleeding with her first points of the night.
With the Dragons inside game being sent to the bench with foul trouble, the Wolverines would eventually shoot themselves to a 20 point lead at 32-12 with 4:50 to play in the opening period. An Alexia Kemper basket from the left corner got the Adrian’s offense going to finish the first half as they put a 13-5 rally together.
A Moriah Bullerman steal turned into two points and when Kaitlyn Christians netted a baseline runner the Dragons brought themselves to within 16 points at 34-18. Another Bullerman fieldgoal with a freethrow each from Christians and freshman, Bailey Lonneman, brought Adrian even closer at 35-22. A MLA freethrow was answered with a deep corner three-pointer from Christians, who was set up with an assist from Mikayla Jeffers.
It made it a 36-25 score at halftime.
