On Wednesday, January 18, approximately 200 students from the AHS High School 9th-12th grade, as well as homeschooled students, moved approximately 9,500 books from the Adrian Branch Library building, to the New Vision Coop building, which will serve as the temporary Library during the upcoming renovation.
The Adrian Branch Library has been working on setting up a renovation of the buildings and furnishings for a year now. On January 24, 2017, the Nobles County Commissioners are scheduled to approve a bid contract. After that, we are hoping that the work will begin on the Library building sometime the first week of February 2017. The work will begin with a demolition of the inside of the building, and removal of the asbestos floor tiles. Part of the renovation plan includes putting an ADA compliant entry, and bathroom, as well as repair of walls, carpeting, ceiling and lighting, etc.
Because the Library cannot operate out of the building during the renovation, the New Vision Coop in Adrian has loaned us the use of the west end of their facility for as long as we need it to operate a temporary library, rent free. The Lismore Telephone Company is providing free Internet access for our staff and patron computers. We will be operating with full library services, as well as the majority of our collection, from the New Vision Coop building (100 E. 2st Street, located at the corner of Maine Avenue/Hwy 91 & 1st Street in Adrian).
It is hoped that the renovation will be completed sometime in May of 2017.
