Our Loving Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather Donald Duane Hartog passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 81.

Don was born to Klaus and Sena Hartog on April 26th, 1935 in Adrian MN. He was raised on a farm with his 4 brothers north of Adrian. He graduated from Adrian High School in 1953 as the class Salutatorian.

Don met his future wife Roberta Jean Grove while attending high school and were married on June 26th,  1953.

The 2 of them spent the next 10 years in Adrian where Don worked at the Brentwood Egg producing plant. Five of their six children were born there Sandy, Randy, Scott, Curt and Doug. In 1967 he had the opportunity to take a job managing the Sioux Coop Egg Producing plant and moved his family to Sioux Center, Iowa. There they had their sixth child Steve. Another opportunity to manage an egg producing plant came up and he moved his family to Moorhead, MN. There he worked for Myhro Egg producing plant for just over a year. In late 1968 he changed jobs and began working for the Morton Salt company as a regional salesman. He had found his calling. He spent the next 33 years until his retirement working for them. During that time he also tended bar for 10 years at Diemerts Bar in Moorhead on the weekends. Don’s outgoing personality gained him many friends over the years.

After his retirement in 2000, he and Roberta became snowbirds for 13 years. Spending their winters in Arizona and summers in Moorhead and the lake. In 2004 they moved to Lake 7 near Vergas, MN and spent the next 10 years enjoying lake life. He loved sharing the lake with his large family.

Don loved the outdoors and his children have fond memories of many camping trips and spending time at their camping trailer. He and Roberta spent 17 years at Lazy Acres Campground on Lake Franklin and 3 years at Tamarac Resort on Round Lake before moving to Lake 7. He was an avid fisherman and every summer for 25+ years he and his sons and other friends would go to Canada and catch the “Big Ones”. In his younger days he enjoyed riding dirt bike in the Smokey Hills north of Osage, MN with his 4 youngest sons. He also loved bowling, golfing and working on keeping his lawn weed free.

In 2014 he and Roberta moved back to Moorhead because of his health and resided at Farmstead Estates until his death. We will miss you so dad.
