Winter Reading Program for Adults

By Meredith Stanton Vaselaar

It is that time of year again, when library patrons start stocking up on books, in anticipation of the annual winter reading program for those ages sixteen years and older.  Each year, adult patrons are encouraged to read as many library books as they can during the dreary winter months that follow the holiday season.  Patrons can earn prizes as well as help the Adrian Branch Library earn the top spot in the friendly reading competition between Libraries in the Plum Creek Library System.

Last year, 71 adults participated in the Adrian Branch Library Winter Reading Program for Adults (as well as Teens aged 16 and up), with a total of 1,272 books that were read by participants.  This was down a bit from the previous year, which made it possible (for the first time EVER) for the Nobles County Library to outdo us (based on percentage of population and readership).  We REALLY cannot let that happen again this year, can we?  Every patron, aged 16 years old and up, that reads at least 12 library books (it can be a physical book, an eBook, or an Audio book) will receive a special reading mug, and be placed in a drawing for more prizes.

This year, wouldn’t it be great if Adrian could place FIRST?  The race is on, and the Library is encouraging all patrons to show their support of the Library – and reading – by signing up for the program (no cost) and reading a dozen books.

The reading program runs from January 1, 2017, to March 31, 2017.

Participation in the program is simple:  any adult, or teen at least sixteen years of age, can sign up at the Adrian Branch Library.  Participants must have a library card, and read library materials.  It is that simple – no fuss, no cost, and library materials are free and available for public use.
