Adrian News – Dec 28

A beautiful Mass was offered by Father Andrew Beerman for Helen Wolf on Tuesday, December 20th at St. Adrian Church.  Helen, age 90, was born in Charles City, Iowa.  Her first husband died in 1994.  Helen married Emanuel Wolf in 1997 and the couple lived in Adrian.  Helen was a very talented lady who was involved in many projects. She made many quilts for her two families.  Helen is survived by her husband Emanuel; four children, eleven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; eight stepchildren; 18 step grandchildren and 25 step great grandchildren!  In the last few years Helen suffered great pain with shingles and could not hug as she wanted to.  She reached for your hand with a sweet smile and suffered in silence. Blessed be the memory of dear Helen  Wolf.  It is good to know she is at peace with no pain.

Lots of family Christmas gatherings and family reunions.  If you would like to report on your holiday activities call the Review at 483-2213 or 483-2718.  I will do her best to write up your family stories.

Kay Cox spent Christmas Eve in Luverne at the home of her son, Mike and Cheryl Cox.  The evening Christmas Mass was at 4:30 p.m. at St. Catherine Church. Christmas carols started at 3:30 with choir director Ron Rother. Father Tom Jennings officiated at the Mass and many small children participated, much to the delight of the audience!  Oyster stew is always the tradition at the Cox home after church services.  All children were present except John and his wife, Sadie , who had to work at their hospital in Milwaukee.  It was a beautiful Christmas Eve.

St. Adrian had Christmas Eve Mass at 9:00 p.m. with Christmas carols beginning at 8:30.  It was a beautiful service. We all miss Father Beerman, but he is following Bishop Quinn instructions to serve and teach in Fairmont/East Chain. We welcome Msgr. Colletti who will serve our four cluster parishes.  His home will be in Adrian.  We hope and pray he will be happy in our area.

Congratulations to Curt Hendel for his great articles about our Veterans and special thanks for his poem “The Night before Christmas” which appeared in the December 21st edition at the Review. Good reading.

What a great story about little Savvy Scheidt.  Her grandfather is the late Eugene “Pizza” Scheidt.  How proud he would have been.

It was good to touch base with JoAnn Wolf from New Ulm.  JoAnn was the wife of the late Joe Wolf and they lived in Adrian. JoAnn moved back to New Ulm which was her former home town.

Adrian State Bank had their Christmas Open House last Wednesday, December 21st.  It was the first time this writer had seen the new ceiling, the new lights and paint. The employees were all busy helping serve Christmas “goodies”.  About 12:30 all the kindergarten children and their teachers came to sing Christmas songs.  What a delight they were.  Ray Konz from the bank asked the children to raise their hand to tell the audience what they wanted for Christmas.  Every little hand went up.  My hat is off to those great teachers.  I told someone I would rather milk cows by hand than to be responsible for teaching those dear little children.  Yes, I did help my dad milk cows.  Remember I was a “depression kid”!

It was a great and blessed Christmas holiday.

Waking up on Tuesday morning without the sound of wind was a pleasant “sound”  after a very windy couple of days.  Trees and building damage are reported in the area.
