The City of Adrian donated $10,000 to the L.A.C.F. sponsored Adrian Library Project. The Adrian Branch Library will soon be undergoing a massive renovation project. Nobles County will cover the costs of the renovation upgrade of the building itself, which tentatively begins in February 2017. This part of the project accounts for approximately 75% of the entire cost.
The Lismore Area Community Foundation is sponsoring a fundraiser that is raising money to furnish the Library with shelving, desks, tables, chairs, displays, children’s story time area, beverage station, etc. The goal is to raise $80,000 – or approximately 25% of the cost of the entire renovation project. Thus far, the fundraising has brought in over $67,000.
The Adrian City Council met earlier this Fall to discuss a possible donation. The Mayor and members of the council felt that the Library is an asset to the community, and pledged up to $10,000 with the exact amount to be determined at the end of the year and contingent of availability of funds. In November the board was in agreement in donating the maximum pledge amount to the Adrian Branch Library. On November 29, 2016, Mayor Bob Weiss presented a check for $10,000 to Librarian Meredith Vaselaar and Library Clerk Joan Johnson.
