Section 3 9-Man Finals: E/E Runs Over H-BC

Edgerton/Ellsworth won its seventh Section 3 9-Man championship by defeating rival Hills-Beaver Creek, 30-12.

Leading the offensive charge for the Flying Dutchmen was 210 pound Senior fullback, Blake Van Dyke, who carried the ball 19 times, scored four touchdowns for a total of 216 yards.

A powerful team defense led E/E, limiting the Patriots scoring to one time late in the second quarter and not until the fourth quarter.

Defensive plays came from Senior defensive end, Jake Huisken, with an early fumble recovery finishing with 11 tackles; Senior middle linebacker, Blake Van Dyke 10 tackles. Junior defensive end, Trey Gilbertson, put pressure on H-BC’s quarterback, Zach Scholten, getting eight tackles and Senior linebacker, Dayne Niemeyer, getting a pass interception, 7 tackles and he blocked both of H-BC’s extra-point kick attempts.  Other  defensive tackles who played a big part of the Dutchmen defense were Rylie Carlson, Joe Van Essen, Zach John and Thad Gunnick.

The Dutchmen bring a 10-1 record into this week’s opening-round state tournament game at Rochester Community and Technical College, playing the defending State champion from Section 1, Grand Meadow at 7:00 p.m. on November 11.

Two years ago, the Dutchmen tangled with Grand Meadow in the State title game at TCF Bank Stadium with

Grand Meadow winning that game by a final score of 48-0.
