The Carl and Verna Schmidt Foundation was created in 1958 by Carl and Verna, residents of Le Sueur, Minnesota. The Foundation gives grants primarily for public libraries, health associations, including a children’s hospital, volunteer fire departments and human services; funding also for the arts, natural resource conservation, and animals and wildlife. The Foundation has given over $1,000,000 to various non-profit organizations since its inception.
After graduating from college, Carl “Chucky” Schmidt established a fur farm in rural Le Sueur county. He married Verna Loose on September 16, 1933. The couple raised mink until they retired. It is because of their commitment to community, and their desire to continue to help small organizations, that the Foundation was created.
