REGLUAR MEETING ADRIAN BOARD OF EDUCATION, SEPTEMBER 19, 2016

Board Chair Lonneman called the regular meeting of the Adrian Board of Education to order at 6:00 P.M. on September 19, 2016. Members present Bullerman, Kruger, Kunkel, Lenz, Lonneman, Madison, and Wolf.  Also present Superintendent Graff, Principals Lofthus, Christensen, staff members Brianne Einck and Sara Wiertzema and guest Meredith Vaselaar

Motion by Wolf to approve the agenda, seconded by Madison, motion carried.

Meredith Vaselaar gave a presentation on the renovations at the Adrian Branch Library.  Asking if the board would approve a donation to the project.  Mr. Graff explained that the District is not allowed to give donations to outside organizations.       Announced that a guest speaker will be in the area and will be doing a presentation at the Adrian Elementary School on October 6 at 7 PM.

Mr. Graff presented a request on behalf of Gregg Nelson, for Adrian Parks & Rec.  They will be refurbishing the infield portion of the baseball diamond and was asking for monetary donations for this project.  Also again Mr. Graff reiterated that the District is not allowed to give donations to this project, as it is not owned by the District.

Motion by Kruger, seconded by Madison to approve the minutes from the August 22, 2016 meeting, motion carried.

Motion by Kunkel to approve the claims and accounts for the month of August 2016, seconded by Wolf, motion carried.

Superintendent Graff presented the following August 31, 2016 reports.  Motion by Lenz, seconded by Kruger to approve the account balances for the month of August, motion carried.

Mr. Christensen presented Mr. Wange’s Athletic Directors report.

Gave participation numbers by sport

Announced it is getting harder to find officials

“C” activities are beginning at 4:45 rather than at 5:00

Visited with Ellsworth Public School to let them know that we are open for discussion in regards to pairing options for sports.

Mr. Lofthus presented his Elementary Principal’s report.

Requested approval of hiring Anne Baumann as the Elementary Secretary.  Motion by Kruger, seconded by Kunkel, motion carried.

School Bus safety presentations are being held at the Elementary, with a refresher given in January for grades K-3.

Reviewed the Building security plan.

Mr. Christensen’s presented his Middle/High School Principal’s report.

Requested approval of hiring Jennifer Rahe as Football Cheerleader advisor.  Motion by Wolf, seconded by Madison to approve request, motion carried.

Presented a request to re establish the After School Study Program to be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Motion by Wolf, seconded by Kunkel to approve request, motion carried.

Presented a request to host the Fall Play on Sunday November 13.  Motion by Kruger, seconded by Kunkel to approve request, motion carried.

Presented a request to purchase new Home uniforms for girls basketball based on the seven year rotation cycle.  Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Lenz to approve request, motion carried.

Mr. Graff presented his Superintendent’s report:

Presented a Building and Grounds update. 

Giving an update on the Elementary playground tiles.

High School Gym lights were installed last week.

Updated on the Security Cameras at the main entrances of the Elementary & High School

Handrail installed by District Office entrance

FAC’s room kitchen cabinets installed in two kitchens.

Roof leaks at Elementary and High School following heavy rain on September 16.

Scoreboard at football field not work ing and has been repaired

Jerry Henning is allowing the District to use his shed between his garage and our van garage for storage.

Presented the 2016 Proposed Levy Certification – Payable in 2107 with a 4.47 increase totaling $56,985.  Motion by Wolf, seconded by Lenz to approve the certification, motion carried.

Presented the lease agreement between Adrian Public School and St. Adrian Parish for use of the playground area.  Motion by Madison, seconded by Kunkel, to approve, motion carried.

Presented the lease agreement between Adrian Public School and Adrian Country Club for Golf and Cross Country, motion by Kunkel, seconded by Madison to approve, motion carried.

Motion by Wolf, seconded by Kunkel to adjourn the September meeting of the Adrian Board of Education at 6:59 P.M., motion carried.
