Our sympathy to the family and many friends of Clair Engen whose funeral was Thursday, October 13th at his church, the Zion Lutheran Church. Officiating was Pastor Karry Boese. Clair lived by the 5 F’s, Faith, Family, Friends, Farmer and Fix-er-upper! Clair and his late wife, Lois, were the parents of four children. Lois and Clair mourned the deaths of two handicapped children. Clair and little daughter Susan had a special bond as he would hold and cradle her for hours. Clair learned to have lots of patience as he waited for Lois who loved to shop and went to many antique shows and auctions. Clair loved the farm and became a fix-er-upper with his equipment. He was never too busy to stop and have coffee with his many friends and neighbors. Rev. Boese gave a beautiful homily and at one time stopped and had Clair’s two daughters come forward and related two stories about their Dad. It was not planned, but the congregations loved it! Clair will be met by Lois in another place and she will probably meet him with a piece of homemade “angel food” cake! Blessed be the memory of dear Clair Engen.
This writer had a nice phone visit with former Adrianite Geneva Kiefer. Gen is living in an apartment in LeSeuer, MN. Her daughter Steph and Gaylan Mooty are close by. Gen stays busy at her retirement center and says “Hi” to her many friends in Adrian.
Don’t forget to take your warm coats to Tony and Darla Parsley’s garage.
The farmers are all busy getting their crops out, so lets be extra careful on the roads and in the fields. God has been so good to us. Good rains when needed and now a good fall.
Adrian Dragons had a great football game. The Vikings had a bye this week and will play next Sunday.
Many thanks to Deb Lutmer who came to the Engen funeral and sat by me. I was near the front to hear better. Thanks to Ruth Bauer who also helped me when Deb went back to school. The Countryside Inn served a delicious “farmer” meal at the Engen funeral. “Gratitude changes the pain of loss into the peaceful joy.”
