Jottings by Jerry – October 5

It was one of the nicest weekends you could hope for. Pleasant temperature with no wind is something that you can’t always count on. Mine started early Saturday with duck hunting at Badger Lake. I have always hunted with a six gallon bucket fitted with a shoulder harness. It carries my thermos of coffee, cup, lunch, extra shells, seat cushion, gloves, dog leash and it is a great place to sit while waiting for the perfect shot. Saturday, hunting with Howard, I was caught a little unprepared. A lone Mallard came from the back on the right side. I shoot left handed which should be good. Well the shot was way behind the duck but I had somehow neglected to brace my left foot. Long story short I fell over bucket and all into a corn row. I tipped over like an outhouse on Halloween. How embarrassing! With bruised pride I climbed back on my bucket and mumbled something about the unevenness of the ground which was perfectly level. Howard pretended not to have noticed and the duck had a grin on his beak. On the way home we talked about the perfect weather.

Two Antartians were speeding down the highway at well over 90 mph.

“Hey,” asked Bob, who was at the wheel, “any cops following us?”

Henry, his passenger, turned around and had a long look at the road behind them.

“Yeah, looks like it,” he responded.

“Are his flashers on?” asked Bob.

Henry turned around again…

“Yup…nope…yup…nope…yup…nope…yup…”
