Welcome back to a new school year.  A big change this year is the later start date.  For the past six years District 511 was a member of the Flexible Learning Year consortium.  This past spring District 511, along with most other member districts, decided not to pursue a new FLY plan.  This decision resulted in a post Labor Day school start date.

We are excited for the students to return to the classrooms and hallways of our GREAT school.  Administrators and teachers have met at different times during the summer to prepare for the new year.

Throughout the summer District 511 staff spent time preparing to welcome back our students.  This preparation includes the work teaching staff, custodians, office, food service, bus company, and administration does to prepare our buildings, classrooms,  and grounds for the new year.  Collectively, all the work that is done helps create something we are proud to be a part of.  Adrian Public Schools is committed to excellence.

On Tuesday, August 30th the entire staff of Adrian Public Schools attended a training titled “Creating a Culture of Learning and Collective Responsibility.”  The presenter, Garth Larson of First Educational Resources, spoke to us about the importance of building and maintaining a school culture designed around the idea that every student can learn at a high level.  He challenged us to understand the importance of collective responsibility that each person that works for the school district is an integral part of the plan to help every student learn at a high level.

As we welcome our students back this week, our mission is to provide an educational environment that sends a message to our students and their families; that Adrian Public School staff love what we do, and that we look forward to working together to provide a “Culture of Learning and Collective Responsibility” for our students.
