Adrian Publc School Board Meeting Adrian, MN
MAY 15, 2017
Board Chair Lenz called the regular meeting of the Adrian Board of Education to order at 6:00 P.M. on May 15, 2017. All members present, also present Superintendent Graff, Principal Lofthus, Dean of Students Koehne, and staff member McCarthy.
Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Wolf, to approve the agenda, motion carried.
Motion by Kruger, seconded by Madison to approve the minutes from the April 17, 2017 meeting, motion carried.
Motion by Wolf to approve the claims and accounts for the month of April 2017, seconded by Madison, motion carried.
Superintendent Graff presented the April 2017 reports. Motion by Madison, seconded by Sieve to approve the account balances for the month, motion carried.
Mr. Lofthus presented his Elementary Principal’s report.
Announced he received a grant in the amount of $300 from AAA of Minnesota to purchase new crossing guard equipment. Motion by Wolf, seconded by Kruger to accept grant, motion carried.
Received a donation of bike helmets for Third Grade students from the Luverne Rotary Club. Motion by Wolf, seconded by Kruger to accept donation, motion carried.
Presented a contract for J Pater as Elementary School Counselor at Lane 5 Step 2, along with Track and Cross Country coaching assignments, motion by Bullerman, seconded by Wolf to accept contract, motion carried.
Presented a request for maternity leave from I Kruse , motion by Kunkel, seconded by Madison to accept leave request, motion carried.
Presented bids for the classroom window replacement in the 54 wing. Bids from Class Doctor, Sioux Falls, SD, at $18,766, Worthington Glass, Inc., Worthington, MN at $24,527. Motion by Wolf to accept bid from Glass Doctor, seconded by Bullerman. Following a roll call vote Madison, Wolf, Bob Kunkel, Kruger, Bullerman all voted in favor, Sieve opposed. Motion carried in favor of Glass Doctor.
Cate Koehne presented her Dean of Students report.
Presented information about adding social media communications through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat. These accounts will be monitored by administration, motion by Kruger, seconded by Wolf, to approve usage of social media in the District, motion carried.
Presented suggestions/revision requests to the student handbook.
Presented a $500 donation to go towards the FAC’s Department in memory from Emanuel & Helen Wolf, motion by Kunkel, seconded by Kruger to accept donation, motion carried.
Received a donation “Home of the Dragons sign” from the Thier family, motion by Kunkel, seconded by Kruger to accept donation, motion carried.
Gave a Professional Development update.
Presented a staff resignation from E Bierman effective June 30, 2017 motion by Kruger seconded by Wolf to accept resignation, , motion carried.
Presented a teaching contract for V VanderWal as a 5-12 Instrumental Music Instructor at Lane 1, Step 3, and additional band duties motion by Wolf, seconded by Kunkel to accept contract, motion carried.
Presented a staff resignation from J Berghorst effective end of the school year, motion by Madison, seconded by Sieve to accept request, motion carried.
Presented a request for maternity leave from A Lysne, motion by Wolf, seconded by Kunkel to accept leave request, motion carried
Jay Wange presented the Athletic Director’s Report:
Spring sports season is wrapping up and season seedings are being determined.
Gave a Cheerleading update. Presented a request to offer the coaching position to M Loosbrock. Motion by Sieve, seconded by Madison to accept offer, motion carried.
Presented a request to have M Harder supervise the fitness center. Motion by Wolf, seconded by Kunkel to approve volunteer supervisor, motion carried.
Gave an update on the upcoming 2017 football season.
Mr. Graff presented his Superintendent’s report:
Presented a Building and Grounds update.
Presented additional information for a skid steer and mower and recommended that the Building & Grounds Committee members get together and make a recommendation.
Presented the roofing bid from Roof Systems, Inc. in the amount of $33,980 for repairs at the Middle/High School. Motion by Wolf, seconded by Madison to approve the bid, motion carried.
Requested to purchase 90 chromebooks for the upcoming school year on a three-year lease. Motion by Wolf, seconded by Kruger, to approve request, motion carried.
Reviewed the first reading of the revised Policy 533 – Wellness Policy.
Presented an Invitation to Quote – Bus Transportation. Motion by Wolf, seconded by Madison to publish quote, motion carried.
Presented the renewal Resolution for Membership into Minnesota State High School League for the 2017-18 school year. Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Bullerman to approve resolution, motion carried.
Presented a Resolution to Refinance the Wells Fargo Lease to SCB Finance. Motion by Wolf, seconded by Kunkel to pass resolution, motion carried.
Gave the Education Legislative update
Presented information for Activity Participation fees. Current fees are $60 per sport/athletic activity, and $15 for academic activities, with a family cap at $300. Motion by Sieve, seconded by Kruger to keep fees the same for the 2017-18 school year. motion carried.
Presented the gate admission fees from this current year at K-12 $4, Adult at $6, individual student pass $35, Family pass card $175, student 10 punch card $30, adult 10 punch card $50, and discussed if we should raise our rates. Per Mr. Wange we are in the same range as most schools our size, motion by Sieve, seconded by Kruger to keep the gate admission fees the same for the 2017-18 school year, motion carried.
Motion by Kruger, seconded by Kunkel to adjourn the May meeting of the Adrian Board of Education at 7:33 P.M., motion carried.
