The Dawg Days of Summer Veteran’s Summit will once again be held at Argonne Post 32 in Adrian Minnesota. Last year, in the inaugural event, Rocky Mountain Dawgs Project founder and Gold Star Father Kevin Sonka brought his travelling memorial to town on the 4th of July weekend. The trailer told the story of 31 Military Working Dog handlers and 31 Military Working Dogs that have been killed in the War on Terror. Kevin’s son David Sonka, a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, and his Multi Purpose K9 Flex were killed in Afghanistan almost four years ago.
This year the event will be a bit different, with an appreciation day for local law enforcement taking the place of the memorial as the main theme. Officers from Rock and Nobles County and all LEOs there in will be invited with a short program being held at 2 PM. Post 32 wishes to show our support to the men and women that hold the thin blue line between those that wish to do us harm and our citizens. We feel that with the overall attitude that has been allowed to grow in the past several years that our law enforcement personnel deserve a day dedicated to their service.
Inside of our Post Home will be a selection of individuals that work to help our veterans from private organizations, and local, state and federal officials. Many of those from last year’s event will be returning this year, and they were a great group with ample information for veterans, future veterans, and families of those that have or are serving.
We have also moved to the weekend after the 4th of July this year. We hope that this will allow more people to attend the day. There will be a food stand, drinks available, and maybe a couple of really great surprises.
So plan to attend the 2017 Dawg Days of Summer Veteran’s Summit on July 8th, 2017. As the final lineup falls together we will update you as to who is coming for sure, and there are a couple of surprises in the works as well. We hope to see you there!
