2018 Election Results are in……

With the election results from November 6 complete, the following people have won positions in our state and local government:

For the State of Minnesota, U.S. Senate seats were won by Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) candidates in both the regular and the special election.  DFL Amy Klobuchar (1,566,082 votes) defeated Republican Jim Newberger (940,488 votes).  In the special election, it was DFL candidate Tina Smith (1,370,432 votes) over Republican Karin Housley (1,095,818 votes).  In the race for Governor and Lieutenant Governor, DFL Tim Walz and Peggy Flanagan (1,392,969 votes) defeated Republican Jeff Johnson and Donna Bergstrom (1,097,721 votes).

In a close race for U.S. Representative District 1, Republican Jim Hagedorn won the seat over DFL candidate Dan Feehan (146,202 to 144,891 votes). The State Representative for District 22A will be Republican Joe Schomacker (10,811 votes) over DFL candidate Maxwell Kaufman (5,377).  State Representative for  District 22B will be Republican Rod Hamilton defeating DFL candidate Cheniqua Johnson (9,757 to 4,819).

For Nobles County positions, the Auditor/Treasurer will be Joyce Jacobs, who received 4,883 votes (75.17%) over Theodore Buhner, who had 1,596.  The County Recorder position was won by Thelma Yager with 4,017 votes, compared to 2,237 for Renee Schnurstein.  The County Sheriff position was unopposed, and Kent Wilkening was reelected with 5,641 votes. Also unopposed was County Attorney Kathleen A. Kusz, reelected with 5,668 votes.  County Commissioners seats were won by Gene Metz

(District 2) with 1,390 votes and Donald Linssen (District 5) with 979 votes.  Soil and Water Supervisors for District 4 and 5 were up for election with Rick Nelsen (5,662) and Paul Langseth (5,743) taking the seats.

In Adrian, John Faber was reelected as Mayor with 389 votes.  There were 9 write-in votes.  For City Council seats, Joe Hornstein (340 votes) and Ron Lonneman (323 votes) were reelected, with 15 write-in votes.  The school board positions were filled by encumbants Robert Kunkel Jr. (745 votes), Chris Wolf (681 votes), Ed Lenz (645 votes), and Leslie Madison (574 votes).  There

were 25 write-in votes.

In Ellsworth Mayoral race, incumbent Tasha Domeyer (124 votes) defeated James Nolte (66 votes) for the position. There were two City Council seats open with six candidates running.  Paul Snyder (115 votes) and Colette Smythe (104 votes) defeated Trevor Boltjes (51 votes), Glenn Meester (40 votes), Chris Palmer (31 votes) and Spencer Swanson (23 votes), with one write-in vote.

In Lismore, Jill Diekman (86 votes) was reelected as Mayor.  Elected to the two City Council seats were Vickie Leinen (75 votes) and Ryan Schieck (59 votes).  There were eleven

write-in votes.

For Rushmore, Scott Biesemeier (86 votes) defeated Travis Nelson (33 votes) for Mayor.  There were 19 write-in votes.   In a tight race for two city council seats, Nicole (Nikki) Reiter ( 82 votes) and Ben DeVries (81 votes) defeated Brandon Feeken (75 votes) with 19 write-ins.

In Wilmont, Paul Grant (110 votes) was reelected as Mayor.  For the two City Council seats, Travis Halbur (109 votes) and Carolyn Penning (98 votes) defeated Jeanette Engels (49 votes).  There were 2 write-ins.
